Lahore’s Metro Bus service could go off the road from August 11.
The private company running the service, Veda, has sent a final notice to the Punjab Masstransit Authority, warning that it can no longer keep buses running without fuel funding.
Veda says its finances have run dry. The company told PMA it simply doesn’t have the money left to sustain operations under current conditions, and uninterrupted fuel supply remains the core issue.
This isn’t a sudden complaint. The dispute traces back to a court order dated July 29, which directed PMA to arrange fuel for the Metrobus service from its own resources. Veda claims it followed up twice — on July 31 and again on August 4 — but got no response either time.
A meeting did take place between the two sides on August 6. Veda representatives reportedly repeated the same message there: operations can’t continue without financial support, and the company has reached its limit.
If nothing changes before August 11, all Metrobus routes across Lahore will shut down. That’s a real problem for a city where tens of thousands rely on the service daily — students heading to college, office employees, and low-income commuters who can’t easily afford alternatives.
Transport analysts note that a shutdown, even temporary, would push extra load onto other options like the Speedo Bus service and private transport, likely driving up fares elsewhere too.
For now, whether the crisis gets resolved or the buses actually stop running remains to be seen. PMA has not issued a public response yet, and no fresh fuel arrangement has been confirmed as of Saturday evening.
Commuters are being advised to keep an eye on official updates over the next couple of days, since the situation could shift depending on what happens between the authority and the operator before the deadline.
