Scale a Liquid Feed Label to the Final Batch Volume

Updated

A liquid feed instruction is useful only when its volume basis is clear. Product per final litre of prepared solution is not automatically the same instruction as product added to a litre of water.

The Liquid Feed Dilution Calculator uses a label rate expressed per final prepared volume. Enter the product amount in millilitres, the corresponding final label batch in litres and the size of the batch you want to prepare. The result includes product volume and water needed to reach the final total.

Five millilitres per final litre

If the label instruction is 5 mL of product per 1 L of final solution, a 10 L batch needs 50 mL of product. The volume left for water is 9.95 L so the total prepared batch is 10 L.

That is the arithmetic basis used by the worksheet. Adding 50 mL to an already measured 10 L of water would create a different final volume. Follow the actual product instruction and use this calculator only when its final volume basis matches that instruction.

Change the batch without changing the rate

A smaller or larger batch scales product volume in direct proportion. The tool does not choose a stronger concentration because there are more plants, nor does it reduce the label rate because the watering can is small.

The label batch field lets you enter instructions stated for another final volume, such as a measured multi litre batch. Copy both the product amount and that volume rather than using the product number alone as if it always referred to one litre.

A zero product dose returns zero product volume and the full entered final volume as water. If the scaled product would exceed the final batch volume, the tool rejects the input. That usually calls for checking the units and label basis, not ignoring the message.

Measure the product separately

Use a measuring method appropriate to the liquid quantity involved. A guessed capful does not become precise because the calculator expresses its answer in millilitres. Keep the product identity and actual label instruction with the result so the same numbers are not later reused for another feed.

This worksheet covers volume scaling for soluble liquid garden feed. It does not assess product compatibility, calculate pesticide mixtures, model acids or identify a crop's nutrient need. Do not use a second product in the same batch merely because both individual volume calculations fit.

For a target entered as nutrient mg/L rather than a liquid label dose, Nutrient Solution PPM Calculator calculates soluble product grams on one nutrient basis. The two tools answer different questions, so their starting rates should not be treated as interchangeable.
