Create a Favicon Pack Without Installing It Automatically

Updated

A favicon needs to remain recognisable at very small sizes. A detailed photograph or a long wordmark can become an unreadable patch when reduced to sixteen pixels.

Favicon Size Pack prepares a set of PNG sizes and a 32 pixel ICO. It gives you the files, but it does not change the WordPress site icon or create a web app manifest.

The pack contains several uses

The PNG widths are 16, 32, 48, 64, 180, 192 and 512 pixels, each on a square canvas. The ICO contains a 32 pixel PNG payload inside its icon structure.

The source is fitted into each square rather than distorted. A wide wordmark can leave considerable empty space and become too small to read, which is a reason to prepare a simpler symbol first.

The selected background composites the source into the canvas. Choose it with the site's intended appearance in mind rather than relying on the editor's checker background.

Review the smallest versions first

If the 16 and 32 pixel files are not clear, a beautiful 512 pixel preview will not solve the navigation tab problem. Remove small decorative details from the source or use a more compact brand mark.

Download the files individually or as a ZIP. Use the appropriate WordPress site icon controls or your own theme integration to install the needed version afterwards.

The generated pack is not a declaration that every operating system will use every file. A complete application icon setup can require separate markup, manifests or platform specific settings.

Keep the larger original logo. It allows you to revise the icon shape later instead of enlarging a tiny favicon and hoping to recover the missing detail.
