Six cups of chai describe a finished serving request. The water and milk poured into the pot can total more than that request when your method loses water during heating.
The Whatson Chai Batch Calculator makes the finished cup size, milk share and an entered evaporation allowance explicit. It uses gram entries for tea leaves and sugar per cup.
Measure the serving cup instead of assuming its size
Enter how many cups are needed and the intended finished volume of each. A household teacup does not automatically mean 150 ml; that is only the opening example.
The milk share applies to the target finished drink volume. The evaporation allowance is extra water per cup, added to the starting water quantity. The calculator does not estimate it from heating time.
The six cup calculation
Use six cups at 150 ml each, 50% milk, 15 ml evaporation allowance per cup, 2 g tea leaves per cup and 8 g sugar per cup.
- Target finished chai: 900 ml.
- Milk to measure: 450 ml.
- Starting water including allowance: 540 ml.
- Tea leaves: 12 g.
- Sugar: 48 g.
The milk and water together total 990 ml before the assumed water loss. The checked arithmetic uses a 90 ml allowance across all six servings to target 900 ml.
The allowance is a method assumption
The tool adds evaporation to water only. It does not model milk composition, dissolved sugar volume, liquid retained in strained leaves or the actual evaporation rate of a particular pot.
Replace the example allowance with a quantity that is useful for your own method. A different pot, heating practice or serving delay may make an old observation a poor planning assumption.
Adjust flavour inputs separately from cup count
Tea and sugar are mass per cup entries. Increasing the count scales those masses, while changing milk percentage changes the liquid split. These are separate controls, not a claim that one recipe suits all tea brands or tastes.
If your quantities are recorded by teaspoons, Ingredient Weight Converter requires an appropriate ingredient reference to estimate mass. A spoon volume by itself is not a tea leaf weight.
For a tea stall or event, add your own quotes
Transfer milk, tea leaves, sugar and other actual costs into Recipe Cost Calculator for a PKR batch estimate. Cups, fuel, labour and waste are not priced by the chai quantity calculator.
Keep cup size beside the result when saving it. “Six cups” without a millilitre size leaves the next batch planner guessing what the original serving request meant.
