A wall estimate starts with the masonry that will actually be built. A 20 ft wall with a doorway does not need the same number of bricks as a solid wall of the same length. Wall thickness matters just as much as the visible face.
The Whatson Brick Calculator estimates units from net wall volume and an approximate brick module that includes mortar joints. It suits an early order estimate. It does not draw a brick bond or work out the exact cuts at corners.
Take these measurements to the calculator
Measure wall length and height in one selected unit. Enter wall thickness separately in inches. Measure the actual brick length, width and height from the stock you intend to buy; a supplier’s size description may be rounded.
Each opening has its own width, height and quantity. Opening dimensions follow the main measurement unit. A door listed twice will be deducted twice, so check the schedule before calculating.
The thickness presets change that one setting. They do not confirm that the chosen wall is suitable for your building.
A wall with one doorway
For this checked example, keep the measurement unit at feet. Enter a 20 ft length, 10 ft height and 9 inch thickness. Use bricks measuring 9 × 4.5 × 3 inches, a 0.375 inch joint, one 3 × 7 ft door and a 5% ordering allowance.
| Reading | Result |
|---|---|
| Net wall face | 179 sq ft |
| Net masonry volume | 3.80 m³ |
| Theoretical brick quantity | 1,503.97 |
| Bricks to order | 1,580 |
The fractional theoretical figure comes from dividing volumes. The order quantity applies the allowance and rounds up to whole bricks. Do not add another 5% to 1,580 unless you intentionally want a second allowance.
What can change the purchase quantity?
An unusual bond, piers, returns and damaged stock can change the order. Treat those as separate measured work or discuss an allowance with the mason. A simple rectangular wall input cannot describe every junction.
Entering a brick price gives a PKR estimate for the order quantity. That figure excludes mortar, labour and transport unless you budget for them elsewhere. A zero price leaves the cost out; it does not mean the bricks are free.
Before placing the order, compare the opening schedule with the drawing and confirm actual brick dimensions with the supplier. Use the Mortar Calculator when you also need an approximate mortar takeoff for the same wall.
