A raised bed order starts with the space inside the frame. Measuring the outside of a timber or brick bed adds material that the garden cannot hold. Measure the internal length and width, then decide how deep the growing medium will sit rather than using the full wall height automatically.
The Raised Bed Soil Calculator separates that geometric fill from an extra material allowance. It also rounds the purchase up to whole bags. Those are three different quantities, and keeping them separate makes it easier to compare a nursery bag order with a loose delivery.
Two beds, measured from the inside
Take two identical beds, each 3 m long and 1.2 m wide, with 30 cm of fill. One bed holds 1,080 litres. The pair needs 2,160 litres before any allowance. Entering 10% extra raises the loose material order to 2,376 litres.
At 40 litres per bag, the calculator requires 60 bags. Their stated volume is 2,400 litres, leaving 24 litres above the allowance adjusted order. With an example price of PKR 650 per bag, the purchase comes to PKR 39,000. That price illustrates the calculation; it is not a nursery quotation.
Extra volume is a buying decision
The allowance field does not measure how much a particular compost blend will settle. Packing, moisture and the ingredients affect the delivered volume. Ask the supplier what its litre figure refers to before assuming every bag will fill precisely the same space in the finished bed.
If the bed already contains usable material, measure the empty depth that remains. Entering the entire bed depth would count the existing fill again. Beds with different dimensions need separate calculations; the bed count field assumes the same inside size for every bed in that run.
A flat metre ruler can help you measure the remaining depth at several points. Use a sensible average for an uneven base, and keep stones or a stepped foundation in mind. This worksheet models a rectangular void rather than mapping those obstructions.
Choose the medium after measuring the order
Volume alone cannot tell you whether a fill drains well or suits the crop. The University of Maryland Extension discussion of raised bed soil distinguishes material choice and soil assessment from simply filling a box.

Use Potting Mix Ratio Calculator when you need to divide the required litres into ingredient parts. For a thin layer on an existing bed, Compost Top Dressing Calculator is a closer match than a complete bed fill calculation.
