A 200 mark subject should carry twice the raw mark capacity of a 100 mark subject. Averaging the two percentages equally changes that relationship and can produce the wrong combined result.
Use Subject Marks Total when your subject sheet includes different maximums. It adds obtained marks, adds the available marks, then calculates one percentage from those totals.
Build the result sheet one subject at a time
Each row needs a subject label, obtained marks and maximum marks. Labels help you spot the wrong row when checking the exported worksheet. They do not change the calculation.
Add practical marks separately only if they are not already included in the subject figure. Counting a combined theory and practical total, then adding the practical again, would inflate both the record and the result.
Three rows, one combined percentage
Consider English at 75 out of 100, Mathematics at 170 out of 200, and Physics at 85 out of 100. Obtained marks add to 330 and maximum marks add to 400.
The combined percentage is 330 ÷ 400 × 100 = 82.5%. An equal average of the individual percentages would be about 81.67%, which is a different answer because it gives Mathematics the same influence as each smaller paper.
The subject worksheet keeps both the raw marks and the individual percentages visible. That makes it easier to trace an unexpected total back to a particular subject.
Decide what belongs in this total
Include only the subjects that belong to the result you are combining. A personal practice test, an optional paper and an official examination should not be mixed merely because all three have numerical marks.
If your institution excludes a subject from an admission calculation, follow that published rule. This tool does not select compulsory subjects or decide which scores an admissions office will accept.
One subject can still need attention
The combined percentage is not a subject pass check. A low result can disappear inside a strong overall total, so read every subject row alongside the official pass requirements.
An obtained figure above a row’s maximum is rejected. Correct that row before adding more subjects. Do not increase the maximum just to make an incorrect entry fit.
For a course with weighted assessments, use Weighted Course Grade instead. That tool combines percentages by declared assessment weights, which is a different calculation from adding subject marks.
