Semester Fees: Tuition, Discounts and Deposits Explained

Updated

A semester fee notice can contain tuition, fixed charges, one time admission fees and a refundable deposit. Adding them into one number hides which amount is discounted and which amount may later be refundable.

Semester Fee Calculator calculates payable cash while showing those components separately. All rates come from your entries, not from a stored university fee schedule.

Start with the billable credit count

Multiply billable credits by the fee per credit to establish gross tuition. Use the billing basis on your fee notice rather than assuming the GPA counted credit total is also the billable total.

A laboratory, repeat course or programme charge may have a different billing treatment. Put it in the appropriate fixed or separate charge only if that matches the notice. The tool does not decide the correct billing category for you.

The discount applies to credit tuition

In this calculator, the discount percentage reduces credit tuition only. It does not reduce fixed semester dues, admission charges or the deposit.

With 18 billable credits at PKR 5,000 each, gross tuition is PKR 90,000. A 10% tuition discount removes PKR 9,000, leaving PKR 81,000.

Add PKR 15,000 in fixed dues and PKR 20,000 in admission charges. Fees excluding the refundable deposit are now PKR 116,000. A PKR 10,000 deposit makes payable cash PKR 126,000.

Component PKR
Tuition after discount 81,000
Fixed dues 15,000
Admission charges 20,000
Refundable deposit 10,000
Cash payable 126,000

Refundable does not mean unavailable cash

The deposit still has to be available when payment is due. That is why it appears in cash payable even though it is separated from the spending estimate.

Refund timing and deductions depend on the institution’s written rules. The word refundable in the input label does not guarantee a full or immediate return.

A full tuition waiver can still leave dues

At a 100% tuition discount, the same example still requires PKR 45,000 in cash: fixed dues, admission charges and the deposit. The tool does not turn a tuition waiver into a waiver of every charge.

If an award is capped at a fixed amount, use Scholarship Fee Balance to inspect that award structure rather than treating a capped award as an unrestricted tuition percentage.

Match the result back to the notice

Check due dates, any taxes, special charges and whether admission costs have already been paid. Include amounts only once. A calculator total is not an official fee challan or confirmation of payment.

For an agreed installment arrangement, Fee Installment Split can split the outstanding whole rupee balance. It does not arrange that payment facility with the institution.
