An exchange rate does not by itself describe the amount paid or received. Percentage charges and fixed fees can change the effective rate of a supplier payment or incoming foreign receipt. The FX Cost Calculator applies the rate you enter and keeps those extra charges visible.
State the direction of the rate
For a sample transaction, enter 100 source currency units and PKR 280 per source unit. The base converted amount is PKR 28,000. The source label might be USD, but the rate here is hypothetical and should not be used as a current currency quote.
The tool does not fetch a market, bank or money transfer rate. Replace the placeholder with the quotation relevant to your transaction and confirm what currency the quote is expressed in before calculating.
Fees change payment and receipt in opposite directions
Enter a 2% charge on the base converted amount and PKR 100 fixed charge. Percentage charges are PKR 560, making combined charges PKR 660.
In pay mode, total PKR outflow is PKR 28,660 and the effective cost is PKR 286.60 per source currency unit. In receive mode, net receipt is PKR 27,340 and the effective received rate is PKR 273.40.
The effective rate describes this transaction size
The PKR 100 fixed fee is spread across 100 source units in this example. A different transaction size changes its per unit effect even if the quoted exchange rate and percentage fee stay the same. Compare providers using the same source amount and direction.
If the quoted exchange rate already includes a provider’s spread, do not enter that same spread again as an extra fee unless it is separately charged. Keep the rate source and charge description with the calculation so the final effective rate can be explained.
Use the confirmed PKR amount in the right cost model
For an imported stock batch, Landed Cost per Usable Unit Calculator combines an entered converted invoice with freight and manually supplied import charges. Avoid adding the same payment charges twice when moving the confirmed cost into that calculation.
This tool models a base rate plus the percentage and fixed charges you supply. Tiered pricing, minimum charges, intermediary bank deductions or fees applied in another currency may require a different arrangement. A mathematically correct sample does not guarantee the provider will settle at that amount. Confirm the actual quotation before authorising a transfer.
