Entry Test Targets: Work Backwards from Your Aggregate

Updated

A desired aggregate can be translated into an entry test target when the academic marks and admission weights are known. The answer is a planning figure, not a prediction of the marks needed for selection.

Use Entry Test Target after confirming the current formula for your programme and application route. Enter your academic percentages, the three weights, a personal aggregate target and the test’s maximum marks.

Separate the part you already have

SSC and HSSC contributions are treated as fixed in this calculation. Their percentages must come from the academic records accepted by the institution.

The tool works only with a positive test weight. All three weights must add to 100%. Otherwise there is no complete declared aggregate formula to work backwards from.

If your test uses penalties, the final target is a net mark target. Use Negative Marking Score separately to see how correct and incorrect answers could produce that score.

Why this example needs 168 marks

Take SSC at 90%, HSSC at 85%, and example weights of 10%, 40% and 50%. The academic contribution is nine plus 34, giving 43 aggregate points.

To reach an aggregate of 85%, the test must contribute 42 points. At a 50% weight, that requires an 84% test score. On a paper out of 200, the requirement is 168 whole marks.

The tool rounds an unwhole mark requirement upwards. It then shows the aggregate produced by that whole mark so you can see whether rounding has put the result just above your chosen target.

When full marks are not enough

Under the same academic figures and weights, a 100% aggregate would require 114% on the test. The calculator identifies the target as unreachable, rather than offering a possible whole mark result.

If academic contributions already meet the target, the arithmetic test requirement can be zero. An institution may still require a valid test attempt and a separate minimum score.

A target is not a closing merit forecast

Enter a target you want to investigate. Do not interpret the result as a promised admission threshold or an assurance of selection.

Admission routes can use different weights. Compare your inputs with the applicable official criteria if you are applying to NUST, or the corresponding official page for your institution.

Recalculate when accepted academic marks or the published formula change. Keep eligibility, document requirements and selection outcomes outside this arithmetic worksheet.
