Recipe Cost in PKR: The Ingredient Used Is Not the Whole Pack Bought

Updated

Buying a 1 kg pack of flour and using 250 g in one recipe creates two different costs: the pack purchase and the share allocated to that batch. The Whatson Recipe Cost Calculator shows both rather than treating the full purchase as one recipe’s ingredient usage.

All quotes are entered by you. The following PKR amounts are hypothetical examples, not current Pakistan market rates.

Give the used quantity and pack quantity compatible units

Each row needs an ingredient name, used quantity, its unit, pack quantity, pack unit and pack price. Grams and kilograms can be matched; millilitres and litres can be matched. Mass cannot be directly matched to volume without another conversion.

If the recipe gives milk in millilitres but the supplier quote is by kilograms, resolve that measurement before entering a compatible cost row. This calculator does not invent an ingredient density.

A small batch with two ingredient quotes

Enter 250 g flour from a 1 kg pack quoted at PKR 200, and 150 ml milk from a 1 litre pack quoted at PKR 300.

Ingredient Allocated usage cost Whole pack purchase
Flour PKR 50 PKR 200
Milk PKR 45 PKR 300

The checked ingredient usage total is PKR 95. Buying both packs from zero stock costs PKR 500; unused ingredients remain outside this recipe’s allocation.

Add the other production costs explicitly

With PKR 100 labour, PKR 40 energy and PKR 20 other costs, the batch usage cost becomes PKR 255. At 12 finished portions, the checked cost per portion is PKR 21.25.

The whole pack ingredient purchase figure remains PKR 500. It does not include those separate production costs and is not the same as the allocated batch cost.

A zero quote means the estimate is incomplete

The opening prices are zero so the plugin does not pretend to know live rates. A used ingredient without a price generates an incomplete quote note. Replace those values before relying on the total.

The purchase figure assumes no stock and rounds each ingredient’s required packs up. Use Recipe Shopping List Planner when you need to subtract pantry stock before buying.

Finished portion count should be the yield you actually intend to allocate costs across. For a selling price, Bakery Pricing Calculator adds its own saleable count, packaging, margin and fee assumptions.

Keep quote dates and supplier details in your own notes. Downloading this worksheet records the quantities and entered prices, not a permanent guarantee that the next purchase has the same cost.
