Ever wished you could quietly remove someone’s Close Friends list on Instagram? It looks like Meta is thinking about it. The platform is reportedly developing a feature that would let users remove themselves from any Close Friends group.
Right now, there’s no way to do that. If someone adds you to their Close Friends list, you’re stuck seeing their private Stories and Reels unless they remove you.
TechCrunch reports that the feature is still in development and hasn’t been tested publicly. The first hints came from reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who often spots unreleased Instagram features. He shared a screenshot showing that Instagram plans to warn users that leaving a Close Friends list will prevent them from seeing that person’s private Stories.
The concept is a lot like Snapchat’s private story option, where users can step out of a friend’s private circle on their own. It’s a small tweak, but it could make managing private content a lot less awkward.
As with many internal prototypes, there’s no guarantee this will make it to the public version. For now, it’s something to keep an eye on if you’re hoping for more control over who sees what in your feed.
